SunUmbra Natural Organic Sunscreen & Sunblock {Review}

SunUmbra classic is the first natural sunscreen by this brand that I’ve tried (and the only one so far) but it isn’t the only one available. They have four other products that I look forward to giving a try next time: SunUmbra sport, daily, family, or kids.

Packaging

SunUmbra sunscreen lotion comes in a plastic tube with an attached cap, which opens and closes easily. The tube has a nice sturdy feel and the attached cap is very practical. Even after being tossed around in my handbag for months, it barely shows any dents and what’s more… there haven’t been any unplanned/disastrous openings or spills!

Texture

Thick and gooey, SunUmbra’s creamy texture has two sides to it. A possible downside of the sturdy texture is that you may need to devote a moment of attention to properly spreading it out. The plus side though, is that SunUmbra stays in place very well throughout the day and offers a good layer of protection. I suspect the thick, creamy texture has perhaps adds to the fact that I’ve never gotten so much as a hint of sunburn when using SunUmbra!

Scent

There’s nothing wrong with SunUmbra’s scent, it just isn’t its most memorable feature. Faintly fresh and natural is as far as I’d get in the attempt to define SunUmbra’s scent, but this absence of a typical “signature” scent isn’t at all a bad thing, i.m.o. – how often do you really want your overall scent to be dominated by the fragrance your sunscreen?  SunUmbra’s scent is discrete and that actually makes it pretty darn’ practical to wear. It also makes for a perfect unisex product. 😉

The active ingredient in SunUmbra is 16% of zinc oxide. This is a natural mineral. It reflects the light and protects the skin by bouncing back those UV rays.

Although zinc oxide is the only ingredient to actively block UV’s, it isn’t the only active ingredient. SunUmbra is loaded with botanical extracts from black tea, broccoli sprouts and aloe vera hydrate, to moisturize, rejuvenate, prevent damage and restore the skin cells, among other things.

Aspen bark extract works as a natural organic preservative. If you are interested in a little nugget of science behind its working, you can read more about this here.

What I like about SunUmbra Natural Organic Sunscreen

  • First and foremost, I love that I can really trust it to prevent sunburn! If all else is on par, but you’re still wondering whether your sunscreen will be “enough” of a protection, well… what is the point?
  • The texture and light beige color work great, the natural tint even covers up minor flaws or small blemishes.
  • Truly amazing about SunUmbra is how it comes loaded with anti-oxidant botancial extracts, to support the skin at the same time as protecting it.
  • The packaging is perfect and very well adapted to being used on the go or throughout an active lifestyle.
  • Even though it isn’t strong, I do appreciate SunUmbra’s faint, natural fragrance. Much better than one of those classic, heavy sunscreen scents. The ones that used to instantly eclipse me to an afternoon at the beach, yes… but that was before I got into natural skin care. Now that type of scent seems to just be screaming “artificial fragrance”.

What I like less about SunUmbra Natural Organic Sunscreen

I could have done with just a tad more fluidity in the cream’s texture, but at the same time wouldn’t want to sacrifice any protection or staying power, so I’d still choose those two over more fluidity. A natural organic sunscreen, packed with nutrients for the skin and offering great protection – it makes me wonder if I should be saying anything at all about the thick texture, because it hardly seems like a fair remark.

Final thoughts & Other Natural/Organic Sunscreens

SunUmbra is without a doubt one of the best natural and organic sunscreens I’ve ever used. Between the clean and green ingredients, the additional moisturizing and boosting extracts as a bonus, and the unbeatable layer of protection it offers, SunUmbra is a must have for anyone looking to protect their skin from harmful UV’s in the most natural way.

SunUmbra Classic worked well for me in various circumstances, but if the classic doesn’t seem adventure-proof enough, you could always give SunUmbra Sport a try. These are the five available types of natural sunscreen lotion by SunUmbra:

  • SunUmbra Classic (100 ml)
  • SunUmbra Sunkids (100 ml)
  • SunUmbra Sport (100 ml)
  • SunUmbra Daily (60 ml)
  • SunUmbra Family (250 ml)

All SunUmbra sunscreen can be found here.

Pricetag: between $19.90 and $35.70 per tube, depending on the size and type (with substantially decreased pricing when ordering 3 or more).

Look for a coupon code on the SunUmbra website to get 20% off your order. (Yes, even if you order just one tube!)
