UNE Makeup Review ‘Skin-Echo Concealer’

It took me quite some time in the store to decide which of UNE’s concealers to try. After hovering over the collection and trying itty-bitty smears here and there, I decided to give the Skin-Echo Concealer a go.

Packaging

The Skin-Echo concealer comes in a white tube (UNE Cosmetics’ signature design) and has a little applicator brush. The tube-system is appealing because of the ease of application, and not getting any dirty fingers into the product. I tend to believe an open container is more convenient when it comes down to scraping out the last bits, near the end. That being said, and applicator had the earlier mentioned advantages over an open container, and those can even make it worthwhile to ‘loose’ the last rests of your concealer.to the bottom of a hermetically closed tube.

Texture

Let’s start with what the UNE Skin-Echo concealer claims to be: “A fluid moisturizing concealer with soft brush applicator to hide small complexion imperfections and illuminate dark areas.”

I won’t waste your time with diplomacy here – rarely have I been so disappointed with an organic makeup purchase in my life. What happened to trying it out, you may wonder? Well, I did spend time at the UNE section to try out their testers, but I am a bit particular about rubbing something close to my eyes, knowing it is something everyone else has touched. So, I tried the Skin-Echo Concealer as best I could: on the back of my hand. The other concealing makeup products by UNE seemed rather dry, and the Skin-Echo Concealer appealed to me (well, to the back of my hand at least) because of its fluidity and moistness. I thought that would really make for radiant skin, and light up my under eye area’s!

Once home, and very excited about my new concealer, I tried applying a little of it to my face and under my eyes. Big problem – it didn’t blend. I ended up with blotches of pigment and large patches of nothing. Thought I must have gotten a bad product, but no – the lady in the store couldn’t help me.

I realized that I misjudged this purchase. The texture is flimsy, doesn’t really cover anything and doesn’t light anything up either. Whether I try smoothing or tapping it on, it curdles under the touch. All it does is leave behind some weird looking blotches that scream “I tried my hand at a concealer, but I really don’t know how to use it, and by the way, I don’t have a mirror either.”

After my experience with the UNE mascara, I was so bummed to discover yet another useless UNE makeup product. Their packaging looks so nice, and I really want to like UNE, but their Skin-Echo Concealer was a total disaster.

Scent

It says something on the UNE beauty website about a natural lotus fragrance. Unfortunately, I couldn’t care less about the scent. I just wished it worked as a concealer.

Ingredients

Ingredients, INCI: AQUA (WATER), OCTYLDODECYL MYRISTATE, GLYCERIN, SILICA, GALACTOARABINAN, CHONDRUS CRISPUS (CARRAGEENAN) EXTRACT, SUCROSE PALMITATE, GLYCERYL CAPRYLATE, HYDROXYETHYL ACRYLATE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE COPOLYMER, SQUALANE, POTASSIUM SORBATE, GLYCERYL STEARATE, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), SUCROSE LAURATE, SORBITOL, POLYSORBATE 60, GLYCERYL STEARATE CITRATE, MANNAN, SUCROSE,XANTHAN GUM, SUCROSE DILAURATE, CAMELLIA SINENSIS LEAF EXTRACT, SORBITAN ISOSTEARATE, CUCUMIS SATIVUS (CUCUMBER) FRUIT EXTRACT, SUCROSE TRILAURATE, LINALOOL, CITRONELLOL, CITRIC ACID, [+/(MAY CONTAIN) : CI 77019 (MICA), CI 77007 (ULTRAMARINES), CI 77163 (BISMUTH OXYCHLORIDE), CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77891 (TITANIUM DIOXIDE)] 09UMT0071.

The ingredients are not even all that natural/organic. UNE is one of those brands that first and foremost have a great team of marketing people, photographers and graphic designers. The ingredients aren’t as bad as it gets, but also not as natural as you will find in the Miessence concealer, for example. Many UNE makeup products use octyldodecyl myristate, which I am not thrilled about. Obviously, it hasn’t swayed me from trying their product either – in my defense, it was the most natural one I could find at the local store at that time.

It says 99.2% of the ingredients are of natural origin.

What I like about the UNE Skin-Echo Concealer

  • Uhm, nice advertising…?
  • There’s nothing wrong with the packaging.

What I like less about the UNE Skin-Echo Concealer

This concealer has been a huge disappointment – in texture, in coverage, and in highlighting-powers. Yikes. After first trying their mascara and then this concealer, I vowed to not fall for UNE cosmetics’ promises and pretty looks again. And then… I went back to the same store, and bought their Intuitive Touch BB-cream concealer, which I had initially judged too try and powdery. I know, I have the backbone of an eel. Just really needed a concealer that day! Sometimes online shopping isn’t fast enough, right?

Where to find UNE Skin-Echo Concealer

  • Amazon only has one option left at this time – UNE Echo Concealer Skin (Color Beige Brown)
  • LoveLula no longer carries this concealer, and on the official website unebeauty.com it seems out of stock as well. Perhaps they’ve moved on to developing something new?
