Herbal Choice Shampoo Review {Organic & Vegan} Green Tea Peppermint

This is a review of Herbal Choice Mari vegan and organic shampoo. They have a bunch of different ones – Rosemary & Chamomile, Sage & Thyme, Eucalyptus & Fennel, Lemongrass & Ginger, Lavender & Calendula, Sweet Orange & Cranberry, Tea Tree and unscented – besides the Green Tea & Peppermint organic shampoo reviewed below. All sounded appealing, but you have to start somewhere…

Packaging

The practicality of a classic shampoo bottle in the shower is rather evident. Open it with one hand, one click, turn upside-down, squeeze. Easy. In fact, this type of bottle is so easy to use, that I would recommend a little piece of tape over the top when taking your shampoo for a trip. Being thrown around among other pieces of luggage may open this cap just as easy as your own finger. For those who have never unpacked an opened-up shampoo bottle, it’s a sticky mess.

Herbal Choice shampoo bottles are made of plastic. Herbal Choice Mari says they reuse old newspaper, boxes and bags for packaging. They are also working on replacing the plastic packaging with a more environmentally friendly alternative.

Texture

It’s a light colored fluid gel, which gives a nice foam.

Scent

The first thing that came to mind when I smelled the fragrance of this organic Herbal Choice shampoo was something holding the midst between mosquito spray and ice tea! It may sound weird, but funny enough that’s a nice combo – quite fresh.

Ingredients

Ingredients, INCI: Purified water (pure water), saponified organic olive oil, organic jojoba oil and organic coconut oil, colorless henna (organic). horsetail herb (organic), green tea (leaf), peppermint (organic), lemongrass (organic), apple cider vinegar (organic), guar gum (natural tree gum), aloe vera (organic), rosemary (extract).

Herbal Choice shampoo is vegan, and made with almost all organic ingredients. Big bonus points for that. The formula seems based on saponified olive, jojoba and coconut oils.

What I like about Organic Herbal Choice Shampoo {Green Tea & Peppermint}

  • Herbal Choice shampoo is made with a great list of all-natural, organic ingredients.
  • Affordable pricetag.
  • Nice fresh fragrance with the peppermint, green tea, lemongrass and perhaps lingering scents of some of the other herbal extracts.

What I like less about Organic Herbal Choice Shampoo {Green Tea & Peppermint}

  • It’s not as good as Miessence (…but there’s a lot worse, too!)

Herbal Choice Shampoo :: Final thoughts

As far as the performance goes – foaming and cleansing – well, make sure to rub the shampoo between your hands and then massage it into the scalp, to have it spread out well. ‘Friendly’ organic shampoo just isn’t as aggressive as regular shampoo, which withing ten seconds strips away everything you want – and more. There are not that many organic shampoo’s out there and I was happy with this one.

On a personal note, for your consideration: I have a LOT of hair. Miessence organic shampoo is the only brand to actually make my hair feel lovely, soft & clean, using just a small amount to wash. With all the others, including this creation by Herbal Choice Mari, I do have to add a second run (or third, or fourth…) for the sides and underlying layer of hair. Miessence shampoo’s performance is stellar, but the price is also a bit higher. This Green Tea & Peppermint organic shampoo is nice, cheaper, but I have to use more of it. It leaves my hair clean, though not as soft and manageable as with Miessence. Still working on comparing how long a bottle of each of those lasts!

Pricetag: a full size bottle goes for around US $10.95. (Prices vary at Herbal Choice Mari, the more you order, the bigger the discount.) A trial size is US $3.95.
