John Masters Zinc & Sage Shampoo with Conditioner Review

Reviewing the Zinc & Sage Shampoo with Conditioner by John Masters Organics.

Packaging

John Masters organics’ zinc & sage shampoo with conditioner is packaged in a slender tall bottle, fitting easily in one hand. The shape and size are perfect. It is very convenient to open and close with a one-click button, or whatever those things are called. The cap can also be turned to come off entirely. Because the cap is flat on top, the bottle can be positioned bottom-side-up without much of a hassle, to get every last bit of shampoo out of it near the end. (This is about the 8 oz bottle, by the way.)

Texture

The zinc & sage shampoo with conditioner has a very interesting color. It’s golden-brown-ish! These marbled shades of caramel go very well with the fragrance, which is…

Scent

… amazing! Best shampoo scent ever. Each time I use it I fall more in love with it. Like being served mouth-watering creme brulee on a beach in Tahiti, with a vanilla flower in your hair. You’ll have to remind yourself that John Masters’ Zinc & Sage Shampoo with Conditioner isn’t edible.

Being into vanilla fragrance is a must here – if you’re not, find yourself a different organic shampoo.

The Zinc & Sage Shampoo with Conditioner by John Masters is made with 12 certified organic ingredients.

Disodium cocoamphodiacetate is a synthetic surfactant produced on the basis of fatty acids derived from coconut oil. Babassuamidopropyl betaine seems to have a lot of other scientific names (synonyms) when looking on ewg.org.

Here we have a shampoo that contains many natural, botanical ingredients, twelve of them being organic. The base consists of a cleansing substance, which did not grow in nature “as is”. The coconut and the babassu have gone through a chemical process to become what they are as part of this product. Here’s the thing – I’m okay with that.

For a while, I’ve tried really hard to make the so-called “no-poo method” work for me. I’ve also had a few encounters with extremely natural shampoos. These where basically producing the same result as the horrific baking soda and vinegar situation, all while costing at least fifteen bucks per bottle. After months and months of perseverance, I decided I just needed a certain amount of cleansing agents in my life – more precisely on my scalp. For the sake of my overall happiness resulting from fresh, manageable tresses I gave up the hardcore hippie hair care ideals. So yes, this organic shampoo is made with lovely organic plant extracts, and also some plant-based yet processed (and therefor called ‘synthetic’) cleaning substances. The latter is precisely why it works for me. Less hippie, much more happy.

What I like about the Zinc & Sage Shampoo with Conditioner

  • The scent is divine.
  • The Zinc & Sage Shampoo with Conditioner contains twelve organic ingredients.
  • It washes well, I need one dollop for the top of my head, and another small one for the neck area, working my way up. Still, the bottle goes a long way. I’ve had it for months and it makes my hair feel soft and clean.
  • On John Masters’ official website, it says this shampoo is great for controlling dandruff, as well as itching and flaking. I confirm – my husband really loved it and his scalp was cleaner than ever. I’m confident the zinc & sage shampoo played a role in that, since when he came home from a trip, the dandruff had also made a comeback.

What I like less about the Zinc & Sage Shampoo with Conditioner

Nothing to dislike about the John Masters Zinc & Sage Shampoo with Conditioner.

Final thoughts & other Organic Shampoo Reviews

The conditioning properties of this organic shampoo are a bare minimum – if your hair is dry or needs special attention, you may want to add something extra.

When I first started using it, somehow it seemed to not really clean my hair through and through. After a while though, it became my favorite one to grab in the shower. Perhaps my hair had to get used to it, or maybe I just imagined it not cleaning well at first – kind of strange, right?

Pricetag: Around US $ 20 for 8 oz. and US $ 32 for 16 oz.
