Review :: John Masters Organics Linden Blossom Face Creme Cleanser

Packaging

John Masters’ organic linden blossom face creme cleanser comes in a recyclable amber glass bottle with a pump dispenser. All their printing is done on recyled paper with soy based vegetable inks.

Texture

Creamy and quite fluid, this organic face cleanser is off-white in color and has a lovely consistency i.m.o. The color looks delicate – not that I care that much about what color a product has, the fragrance and obviously the performance are much more important – but still, this slightly off-white hue is nice. The cleanser is rather runny, basically just solid enough to be applied without dripping, as are many other creamy face cleansers. So, nothing too shocking here – a beautifully silky texture which is pleasant to use.

Scent

Even though I’ve been reading other opinions online, I don’t really get how you can have any issue with this cleansers’ fragrance. I have a hard time discerning any scent at all, it smells very neutral to me. (And that’s not because my nose isn’t working or anything funny…!) I vaguely note a natural fragrance. Some of the ingredients probably just have a faint herbal scent on their own. Those shine through a little, but nothing too overwhelming. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy what I smell. Even though it’s not much, I’m liking this gentle, neutral odor. It’s kind of soothing and matches well with the white and creamy look.

Ingredients

Ingredients, INCI: Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice*, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil*, rosa damascena (rose) flower water*, glycerin*, coco glucoside, coconut alcohol, leuconostoc/radish root ferment filtrate, triticum vulgare (wheat) germ oil*, lauryl glucoside, calophyllum inophyllum (foraha) seed oil*, sclerotium gum, tilia cordata (linden) flower extract*, panax ginseng (ginseng) root extract*, sambucus canadensis (elder) flower extract*, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract*, cananga odorata (ylang ylang) flower oil*, rosa damascena (rose) flower oil*, melissa officinalis (melissa) flower oil*, xanthan gum, citric acid, potassium sorbate. (* Certified Organic)

The actual cleansing ingredients in this organic face cleanser are plant derived and you may recognize them from other organic skin care lines. (For example, Miessence uses coco glucoside in their organic shampoo.)

Combined with botanicals, this cleanser’s formula is geared towards dry, mature and sensitive skin. Rose flower oil is a wonderful oil for restoring dry skin and has something good to offer to other skin types as well. It’s one of those all-round soothing oils. Ylang ylang is another essential oil with great properties for dry skin as well as oily skin. It is both antiseptic and nourishing. Together with linden blossom, ginseng, elder flower and melissa, this organic face cleanser may be intially meant for dry, mature and sensitive skin, but it sounds quite nice for most skin types to me! I don’t have mature skin at all, and occasionally some acne, but it felt good. If you enjoy using a “creme” (or cream, or just “creamy”) cleanser, why not?

If you have oily skin with acne, you may find Annmarie Gianni’s Citrus Mint facial cleanser to be a better fit. Actually, that one’s creamy too, and very organic. Try a sample? Trot this way…

Thirteen ingredients in the Linden Blossom Face Creme Cleanser are certified organic. Not tested on animals, but that’s rather obvious with a brand like John Masters, isn’t it?

What I like about John Masters Organics’ Linden Blossom Face Creme Cleanser

  • The gentle (almost non-existing) scent is delicate.
  • The off-white color and silky texture give this cleanser a luxury feel.
  • The fact that you can leave it on for a few minutes for extra hydration. It’s a nice concept to have a cleanser give your face an extra boost of moisture, even though my skin didn’t seem to fully agree after I left it on too long.

What I like less about John Masters Organics’ Linden Blossom Face Creme Cleanser

I tried leaving it on my face, and as mentioned above I very much enjoyed this option. Nonetheless, something didn’t go quite right, because my skin was red when I washed it off. Nothing serious or permanent. I’m not sure what happened – it could’ve had something to do with the timeframe. The directions for use tell you to leave it on for up to five minutes. I lost track of time and kept it on my face for something more like fifteen… Clearly not a good idea. I didn’t expect any issue and was a bit surprised by my skin’s reaction. Not sure what caused it. The glycerin, perhaps?

Final thoughts & other Organic Skin Care Talk

Overall I find John Masters Organics’ Linden Blossom Face Creme Cleanser very nice. Leaving it on is a possibility, however I would stick to the five minutes as mentioned in the directions for use. Fifteen minutes left my face red. I should have kept better track of time, I suppose. I would still use it again. This face cleanser is made with largely organic ingredients and leaves my skin fresh, plump and smooth. Definitely a ‘like’!

Pricetag: 4 fl oz for around US $22.
